World War for Everyone is a politically incorrect farce, in which every family member can take one geopolitical stance. And thus, every Christmas at the Hansens’ has a truly apocalyptic potential. 1969: Grandpa Hans-Heinrich, suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, still thinks he is at war, his wife Ingrid has been a pacifist for some years now and his daughter Helga took free love a bit too far: As there is no way to determine whether her newborn was fathered by an American or a Russian, and after her relationship with a Frenchman (in her father’s eyes still the arch-enemy) goes up in smoke, she entrusts her parents with her son’s care. 1981: Josch K., now twelve years old and raised as a stout pacifist by his grandmother, gets a visit from his two potential fathers, Stanislaw Petrow and Ronald McReagan. An unparalleled arms race escalates over the fight for the lost son.

Between slapstick scenes involving red telephones and burnt roast geese, which are misinterpreted as poison gas attacks; between presidents speaking broken English, war-crazed grandpas, and peace-marching grandmas, in all this ribald fun, it becomes very clear that the world has been scraping along the edge of World War Three for an alarmingly long time.
